Study Art and History abroad
Art history involves looking at old artworks to understand how people saw themselves and their world. It shows us how they wanted to share this understanding with others. By studying art, we can learn about past cultures and how they relate to our own lives today.
Studying art history gives us the tools and words we need to understand and talk about all the art around us. It also helps us learn about how art has changed over time in different societies and cultures.
Is Art and History right for me?
Computing & IT is a flexible and diverse pathway, meaning there’s a variety of study options to consider. Most professionals have a three or four-year Bachelor’s degree, which can cost between £9,000-30,000 a year in the UK, around AUD$30,000 a year in Australia, and between USD$20,000-40,000 a year in the US.
However, it’s also important to know that some roles within the Computing & IT industry don’t necessarily require a degree. Often a certificate or diploma is enough. For example, less than half of IT support workers actually have a Bachelor’s degree! At the same time, higher levels of education can translate to higher salaries – those with a doctoral degree in computer science earn an average of USD$93,050 in the US while those with Bachelor’s degrees only earn USD$50,820.
Finally, remember that even after obtaining a qualification, you might require certifications or security clearances for certain roles. This could be an Amazon Web Services certification, an industry accreditation like CISA or CISSP, or a Google certification, depending on the kinds of roles you’re aiming for.

Art and History study options and costs
Becoming an art historian takes a lot of schooling compared to some other art jobs. Most art historians go for Master’s or Doctorate degrees. If they want to teach, they might also need teaching certification. For art conservation and restoration, having a degree in fine arts could be important. In Australia, the cost of studying art history at university is usually between AUD 10,000 and 15,000 per year, while in Canada, it’s typically between CAD 9,800 and 17,200.
Future Outlook
In 2029, there’s expected to be more job openings in art history, with a 9% increase. Careers like archivists, curators, and museum staff will be in high demand. These trends are similar to other industries, growing slowly and steadily over the coming years.
Career pathways for Art and History graduates
Curator
A curator is like a keeper of cool stuff! They gather, store, and show off all sorts of things like art, old stuff from history, digital stuff, and cool objects. Depending on where they work, curators might buy art, organize and store things, do research, write books, and set up awesome exhibitions. You can find curators working in places like museums, libraries, and other cool cultural spots.
Art History Professor
Art history professors teach students how to think critically about art and its connection to culture throughout history. They might do a lot of research, take care of art pieces, and guide students, depending on where they work and who they’re teaching.
Museum Director
The museum director holds the most important role in guiding the museum’s vision, artistic direction, collections, learning, and events. They oversee the museum’s day-to-day activities and have a hand in planning exhibitions, as well as managing the artwork collection, its storage, and display. Additionally, directors handle the administrative aspects of running the organization.
Art Restorer
Art restorers are like superheroes for art! They’re really good at taking care of, fixing up, and preserving all kinds of artworks. They make sure artworks stay safe during storage and when they’re being moved around. They also study where artworks are displayed, document their condition, and decide what needs to be done to keep them in tip-top shape. Usually, they focus on one type of artwork, like paintings, textiles, or furniture, and become experts in that area.
Art Authenticator
Art forgery is really tricky, and there’s a lot of art theft happening all over the place. Plus, during wars, artworks can get moved around illegally. So, when people buy or sell art, they often ask an art historian to check if it’s real. These experts focus on specific artists or styles and have to be really good at researching and investigating. They look into the history of who owned the artwork before, talk to other experts, reach out to artists’ groups, and sometimes even use science to test the materials used in the art.
